Bouygues Bâtiment International was reponsible for delivering the International Hospital Centre of Calavi in Benin — the largest hospital in West Africa and a flagship for the country’s healthcare system.
Spanning 48,000 m² over two levels, the hospital includes 434 beds and offers a wide range of specialised medical services: emergency care, intensive care, radiology, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, dialysis, neurology, and nine high-tech operating theatres certified to ISO 5 and ISO 7 standards.
Designed as Benin’s national reference hospital, the facility aims to transform access to care across the region and support medical training and research.
Its advanced infrastructure features 52 air handling units, 114 extraction fans, over 900 terminal units, 12 km of steel piping, and a 4 MW cooling system, ensuring optimal conditions for both patients and staff.
Built with strong environmental commitments, the project earned EDGE green building certification and the Topsite Innovation label, recognising its efforts in biodiversity protection and digital energy monitoring.
This landmark facility marks a major step forward in public health infrastructure and long-term healthcare resilience for the region.
