At the heart of our operations lies an unwavering commitment to Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), shaping every facet of how we conduct business. As a signatory of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, we fully align our approach to ESG with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. From delivering exceptional projects for our clients to fostering a supportive culture for our people, engaging with local communities, and safeguarding the planet, ESG serves as the cornerstone of our ethos and guides our every endeavour.

Environnent

In our commitment to environmental leadership, Bouygues Bâtiment International has set out an ambitious climate strategy with targets to reduce our direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% and indirect GHG emissions by 30% by 2030. In November 2023, these objectives were certified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and thus are aligned with the latest climate science, reinforcing our promise to reduce our carbon footprint.

To achieve these targets, we work closely with our clients and supply chain to offer innovative, low-carbon, and agile construction solutions for a more resilient urban world. We build differently and non-destructively, reducing the carbon footprint of our construction sites, incorporating eco-design and sustainable materials, and regenerating wherever possible. Our international network of climate ambassadors identifies the most efficient solutions on the market and accelerates their implementation throughout the regions where we operate.

By building differently and non-destructively, we strive to preserve and restore biodiversity on every project. Our teams consider the impact on natural ecosystems as early as the design stage, in order to implement adjustments and solutions to minimise our disruption. We are also committed to circular economy in our activities, an approach which limits our consumption of natural resources, minimises wastage and encourages recycling of materials.

We assess the environmental impact of a project from the earliest stage possible with our carbon scoring tool. Used alongside financial indicators, a project’s carbon performance is reviewed at the selection, tender and implementation phase to identify opportunities for reducing its carbon footprint. On our sites, impact on the environment is tracked using an ISO 14001:2015-certified environment management system. This allows our projects to implement local environmental management plans to monitor and minimise their environmental impact according to the regional context.

Decarbonising our operations also requires a change in mindset and culture. Our in-house climate training platform, Let’s Clim’Act Academy, brings together an extensive catalogue of training courses that can be deployed across all locations. The objective is to raise awareness, upskill, share best practice, and empower our people to take positive action in reducing our carbon emissions.

Social

Being present in almost 30 countries across all 5 continents, Bouygues Bâtiment International has the unique opportunity to positively impact countless lives around the globe. Beyond building, refurbishing, and renovating extraordinary infrastructures, our mission extends to the development of local communities and committed supply chain networks.

Delivering social value has always been at the core of our projects and forms an integral component of the Bouygues Bâtiment International culture. Around the world, we partner with clients, communities, and charities to reduce inequality, improve wellbeing, boost local economies, and deliver prosperity for all. Through our various actions – from sending donations and aid in support of the Ukraine war to supporting underprivileged communities – we pride ourselves on our ability to seamlessly integrate into the fabric of the local community.

Bouygues Construction Foundation

The Bouygues Construction Foundation aims to empower through education, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4. It is dedicated to education equality and knowledge transfer by supporting targeted, high-impact local initiatives to help children and teenagers gain access to quality education. This focus on education is firmly aligned to the Group’s commitment to training and career development. Ali Bencheqroun, CEO of our Moroccan subsidiary BYMARO, sits on the Foundation’s board to drive its outreach programmes across the world.

Governance

Bouygues Bâtiment International and its subsidiaries are organised to maximise proximity to our clients, so we are best positioned to respond to their needs and ultimately guarantee exceptional levels of quality across our project portfolio.

For consistency in this approach, our fundamentals and Code of Ethics set out the expectations and behaviours for responsible, ethical, and fair business. They form the foundations of our interactions with customers, colleagues, suppliers, and partners. It enables us to build professional relationships based on integrity, trust, and respect for the people we work with and the surrounding environment. The Code of Ethics forms part of a wider governance framework that comprises internationally certified policies and procedures.

Human rights

As a leading international player in the construction industry, we have the responsibility of guaranteeing fundamental human rights to our suppliers and subcontractors. Our commitment to human rights is built upon two key priorities:

  • Ensuring that fundamental human rights are respected in our supply chain.
  • Guaranteeing that worker accommodation around the world conforms to our standards.

To uphold these principles, our procurement departments receive regular training to raise awareness of responsible purchasing. We ensure that each of our buyers is individually committed to carefully selecting suppliers by appropriately screening supply chain partners to confirm that fundamental human rights are respected. The CSR performance of our key suppliers is measured and monitored via online self-evaluations, and we also partner with SGS to carry out regular social audits amongst suppliers and subcontractors that have been identified as high risk. These audits evaluate their compliance against twelve criteria.

When it comes to our supply chain, we work hand in hand with suppliers and subcontractors to establish long-term sustainable partnerships underscored by our values and fundamentals. This means doing business with the highest levels of integrity and transparency to ensure safe and fair conditions for all.

Finally, we invite anyone to report (anonymously or otherwise) any ethical matter or behaviour involving us, including a violation of the law, our Code of Ethics, our CSR Charter, or any prohibited practice whether that be harassment, discrimination, corruption, financial crime, or breaches to health & safety on our whistleblowing platform.

Topsite

The Bouygues Construction CSR label, TopSite, is the only one of its kind in the construction industry. Introduced in 2018, it ensures a coherent application of our CSR policies around the world. It is a guarantee that the highest standards are being applied to our projects, and covers five major themes: Health & Safety, Environment, Quality & Customer Satisfaction, Social and Society.
Deployed on the construction sites of Bouygues Bâtiment International, TopSite allows us to identify and valorize best practices, and offer our clients consistent excellence in terms of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Our objective is for every eligible project to be certified TopSite.
